The Villard car was a late example of the cyclecar which had flourished in France a few years earlier. The Villard car was a 3-wheeler powered by a 345cc single-cylinder 2-stroke engine which drove the single front wheel via a 6-speed friction transmission and single chain. In two-seater touring form the Villard car was capable of 35mph, but a 50mph sports model was also available. In 1927 a few 4-wheeler Villard cars were made. These Villard cars also had chain drive to the front wheels, and a 500cc Chaise V4 engine was made for export to America. The last private Villard cars had similar transmission and 350cc ohc Chaise units. The 3-wheeler Villard car was made as light delivery van, and probably more Villard cars were sold in this form than as private cars.
