Ernst-Neumann Neander (1871-1954) was a German Artist, Designer, Draughtsman and also builder of very unique motorcycles in the 1920´s. In 1935 he constructed a so-called „Fahrmaschine“ – he didn´t want to name it a car. It should be light weighted and buit with motorcycle components like engine, gearbox, wheels etc. with a very low seat position. The body was made of plywood spanned over a thin aluminium tube-frame. For quick reaching of motor and gearbox components, it was divided into two pieces lengthwise. Total weight of around 270 kilograms combined with motors up to 60 HP made the front wheel driven Fahrmaschine ideal for race use.
Paul Weyres the only official Harley-Davidson works racer in Germany got a special Fahrmaschine in 1937 built by Neander with the official use of a Harley-Davidson Knucklehead engine running on methanol.
The Weyres-Fahrmaschine was very succesful and participated in several races in Europe like:
10.7.1938 Rund um Schotten
24.7.1938 GP von Deutschland Nürburgring
16.10.1938 Kurpfalzrennen Hockenheim
7.5.1939 Hamburger Stadtpark
21.5.1939 Eifelrennen Nürburgring
11.6.1939 Wiener Höhenstrasse
9.2.1939 Rund um Schotten
6.8.1939 GBP Großglockner
This original survivor of Weyres Fahrmaschine is raced up to date year by year.
