A visit to Viklit Graae Jørgensen – a life among Prewars and stories

Along a narrow road, flanked by dense forest and rows of Christmas trees, we arrive at a charming farmhouse in Denmark. Behind the historic residence stretches a U-shaped garage—a treasure trove full of history, passion, and character. This is the home and workplace of Viklit Graae Jørgensen, a man whose entire life has revolved around pre-war cars and motorcycles.

Viklit has been trading vintage vehicles since the age of fifteen. His very first car? A Morris Eight, which he received for free and sold for the equivalent of 25 euros. Nearly sixty years later, he has sold more than 1,000 pre-war cars. And yet, he still speaks about them with undiminished enthusiasm—something you can feel in everything he says.

Viklit is a familiar face on PreWarCar.com and is considered by many to be one of the friendliest dealers in the classic car world. His garage—accessible through a small door—is packed to the brim. A crate of Gladiator motor oil greets us at the entrance, and the walls are covered with enamel signs: more than 400 in total, each with a story Viklit is happy to share.

Since 1985, he had visited the famed Hershey Swap Meet in Pennsylvania every year, until the pandemic put a stop to that. Over the years, he imported and sold more than 700 cars from the U.S.A.
Not everything is for sale. In one corner sits a 1925 Citroën B12 limousine, which Viklit has owned since he was seventeen. The full history of the car is known, making it irreplaceable in his eyes.

We pass an impressive Rolls-Royce, a stylish Buick, and an original Adler that’s currently for sale on PreWarCar.com. On the other side of the room, a vast collection of historic motorcycles and automobilia gleams. Viklit brings an old inflatable Michelin man to life while a vintage spark plug advertisement flickers above—nostalgia in its purest form.
And yet, among all these timeless classics, there's one oddball: a Buick station wagon with extremely low mileage. “It doesn’t really belong here,” Viklit says with a slight apology. But his passion always wins out over any collecting rules.
In another corner lies a 1902 Knox in parts. “It’s nearly finished,” Viklit tells us, “then it can take part in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run." A journey he once made with his children and wife. A bit further on we find a 1910 Wanderer motorcycle in exceptionally original condition. He’s owned it for 50 years—and even once spoke to the original owner.
Another highlight is the rare Jan motor, a Danish marque of which only three are known to exist. Viklit owns two of them.

Although the main garage is filled to the rafters, it doesn’t feel cluttered. That changes, however, when we open a door to another storage area. Here, it's organised chaos: boxes full of period handbooks, a Ford Model T Runabout hidden behind a wall of cardboard, and even a prewar caravan—one of several, as it turns out. This room is a goldmine for lovers of forgotten curiosities: oil cans, Harley sidecars, copper lamps, and stacks of enamel signs.

To wrap up, Viklit takes us to a rear barn—a true piece of craftsmanship from 1932, lovingly restored by him and his wife. Inside stands an imposing 1937 Volvo bus with room for eighteen passengers. “It still runs,” Viklit says proudly. “Once a year, on my birthday, I take the whole family out for a drive.”

And so, in the life of Viklit Graae Jørgensen, new stories are created every day. Because behind every vehicle lies a memory—and behind every memory, a man who lives for his passion.
