This really-really was a tough one to crack! From the click count on the story we can read that many of you gave it a look. And yes the car has some similarity with the Russian built Volga. But no, this beauty was built one more stop down the road... China! The only one coming up with the right name plus details was Hanu Aalto from Finland: "Dongfanghong (East is Red) BJ 760. Chinese Volga M21 inspired car with 492Q (2445 cc Volga copy) engine, same as in Beijing BJ 212 jeep. First prototype was shown on April 1, 1960. 239 cars were made all together between 1960 and 1969. At least one car remains in a collection in China." Now if you doubt some of this, we invite you to check the chassis plate... Congratulations Hannu! Please send us your T-shirt size and post address.
The car was seen during the last Beijing to Sjanghai rally, so there is a fair chance the PreWarCar-PostWarClassic team will meet the car in the same Classic Cars Challenge of China, two weeks from now.
