The adventurous team Austin TEN-acious – consisting of husband and wife Feroza and Scott – has taken on a unique challenge: driving a 5,000 km Africa Rally in an authentic 1935 Austin Ten. Their mission? To raise as much money as possible for three important causes: Cancer Research UK, MACMILLAN Cancer Support, and Kenyawi Kids.
The Austin Ten, introduced in 1932 and updated in 1935, is an iconic British classic. The 1935 model featured a synchromesh gearbox, friction dampers, and a more modern body design – groundbreaking innovations at the time. Powered by a 1,125 cc side-valve engine producing around 21 hp, it was perfectly adequate in its day. But on rough African roads, steep climbs, and under tropical heat, these modest specifications make the rally a real challenge.
Feroza and Scott have now embarked on the demanding 5,000 km route through South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, and Kenya. They are competing with the oldest vehicle ever to take part in the Africa Rally. Their journey takes them through busy cities and remote villages, meeting local partners – including Kenyawi Kids – and stopping at special locations to share their story and raise awareness for their mission.
The team will also visit local initiatives, including the Mayamiko Programme for children in Malawi.
