Visits to remarkable workshops, parking among the iconic paddocks of Goodwood, and driving through the enchanting woodlands of the New Forest; all in cars built before 1940 and driven by participants under the age of forty. The BeForty Rally 2026 once again demonstrated the enduring strength of its formula.
The concept is clear: young enthusiasts with a passion for pre-war automobiles, brought together for a multi-day driving event. This year marked the rally’s first edition in the United Kingdom, with Hampshire providing the perfect backdrop: a region whose rolling roads and historic character lend themselves effortlessly to such an occasion.
Last Friday, around 140 participants, forming 51 crews, gathered in the south of England. Travelling from France, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and even Italy and Portugal, each arrived with their own story and machine. The field was as diverse as it was impressive: imposing Bentleys shared the road with charming Austin Sevens, while Bugattis and characterful Riley specials added their own distinctive presence. What united them was the rally’s defining atmosphere — open, international, and effortlessly convivial.
The programme offered a well-balanced blend of substance and experience. At Vintage Bentley, participants gained insight into the technical and historical nuances of the marque. Lunch was hosted by Walter Heale, set among an Alfa 8C under restoration and a selection of Austin models offered for sale. The afternoon concluded with a reception organised by Fiskens, held at a fittingly iconic location: the Goodwood Race Control Building.
Amid the mechanical heritage and the steady rhythm of pre-war engines, Charlotte de Montmorency also took part. Driving a 1938 Triumph Dolomite alongside her sister, she captured the spirit of the event in a series of striking photographs.
For those under forty inspired by this unique concept, the next edition — set to take place in Luxembourg — already beckons. To join, simply send an email and become part of a growing community connected through a shared passion, including via the event’s WhatsApp group.
