Happy New Year! The joy of the future

New Year’s Day: the day of good intentions. Good ideas that are often abandoned a week later, yet also the very first day of the future.

Do you remember playing with toy cars as a child? And look at you now: you are still fond of those old things. This image, taken in London in 1941, captures exactly that feeling. Perhaps that is also why it fits the start of a new year so perfectly.
What are your resolutions? Playing more with your cars? Spending more joyful moments with children or grandchildren? Or perhaps something entirely different? The choice is yours.

The children in the photograph take their game seriously: focused faces, small hands firmly on the steering wheel, and even a proper traffic officer signalling the Ford V8 (is it a Model 62?) to stop. A miniature reflection of the adult world surrounding them.

A love for vehicles rarely begins in a showroom, but often through play, observation, and dreams. New Year’s Day is not a moment to rush ahead, but to pause for reflection. And sometimes a single photograph is enough to remind us why we preserve, restore, and keep telling these stories.

Because everything that later becomes a classic once simply began – with joy.

Best wishes,
