Neil "The Virginian" found a French Ford V8! He writes:
Good day. Recently we ran into this oldie and aren't really sure what we have. The easy answer is that it's a '36 Matford cabriolet. The challenge is finding any information on it or its V8-62 family. Surprisingly, this European version of the Ford has shown up back on American soil in Virginia. To our understanding, it was shipped over by an American soldier at the end of the 1939-45 war and been in this area ever since. Surprisingly, a call to a Ford museum yielded no information. The man that answered the phone didn't even know of Matford or the story.
The questions that might be answered are:
- How many were produced?
- Would there possibly be a list breaking down how many of each model were made?
- Is there any source for used parts?
- The near impossible question: any possible way to know if any others were shipped to the U.S.A.?
It seems unlikely that Ford would have imported any, as that would have been competition for their own cars, but you never know what information can be uncovered! One thing can be said: this one won't be turned into a hotrod.
Editor: Well, Neil, we're no Matford experts, but we know where to look. We suggest that you check the French Matford Club, at least you will feel less lonely.... Also we found some basic information, you can check this page. And further we're sure that our readers will cough up one or two good contacts.
