The Cartercar firm employed friction-drive transmission on all models, using a 2-cylinder engine in one model as late as 1909. The Cartercar Model R for 1912 was a 4-cylinder car, using single chain drive to the rear axle. The Motor Car Co. combined with the Pontiac Spring and Wagon Co in 1908 to form the Cartercar Co, which also made the Pontiac. They became part of the General Motors Corporation in 1909.
