One of America’s outstanding prestige cars of any time, the Crane-Simples (or Simplex, Crane Model No.5), with its $10.000 chassis, succeeded the earlier Simplex after Henry M. Crane had taken control of operations. The Crance-Simplex was powered by a 6-cylinder engine of over 9 litres capacity designed by the firm, and was sold in many body styles with coachwork by a variety of America’s finest custom builders, including Holbrook. In 1922, after the purchase of Crane-Simplex by Hare’s Motors, who already owned Locomobile, a new Crane-Simplex was announced with 4-litre single-ohc 6-cylinder engine. This Crance-Simplex car was to be built in the Locomobile factory at Bridgeport, Conn.
