The Mason steam car was similar to the first Stanleys, and the Mason car used a Stanley boiler and burner together with the Mason patent regulator in which the fire was controlled by boiler pressure. This was used in a number of other steam cars, but it is unlikely that the Mason car itself was built in any numbers.
The Mason car was launched as a five-seater powered by a 2-cylinder opposed engine of 24hp. The Mason car had planetary transmission and single chain drive. Very few changes were made in the design during the life of the Mason car make, although two- and four-seater versions were added in 1909. The Mason car was succeeded by the Maytag, thse two makes being Fred S. Duesenber’s first essay in car design.
