Of the several makes produced by the Pope companies, the Pope-Toledo car was the elite car. The Pope-Toledo car grew out of the Toledo steamer, although none of the Pope-Toledo cars had steam engines. All Pope-Toledo car models were distinguished by peaked bonnets and were powered by 4-cylinder, water-cooled engines; 1904 models retained automatic inlet valves. Early Pope-Toledo cars were rear-entrance tonneaux, but by 1907 limousines and seven-seater touring Pope-Toledo cars were being built. The Pope-Toledo car company was taken over in 1909 by the Apperson-Toledo Motor Co, who discontinued the Pope-Toledo car make.
