The Trumbull car make succeeded the American, made by the American Cyclecar Co of Detroit. The Trumbull car was apparently superior to the typical cyclecar, having a water-cooled 4-cylinder engine of 1.7-litres. Friction transmission and double chain drive were used on the early models Trumbull cars, but most Trumbull cars had conventional transmission and rear axle.
