Down to the Sea in Shakes: the 1933 London to Brighton Run

Now that entries for the London to Brighton Run are open, we have started preparing our car for the longest motoring event in the world. And although it is still some time away, we have also quietly started looking at old videos. In doing so, we came across the video shown here from British Pathé, of the (Veteran Car) Run of 1933, six years after the first Commemoration Run to Brighton:77 old crocks, none under 29 years old start, only 6 fail to arrive in annual run that marks 37th anniversary of removal of speed limit of 2 mph’ Although not entirely accurate (the speed limit changed from 4 mph to 14 mph), it still gives a wonderful impression of the time. And what is remarkable, of course, is that nearly 90 years later very little has changed.

Do we see cars that still take part today?

If you have not yet entered, this is still possible (click here). And if you do not yet have a suitable car, there is a solution for that too: see here the current selection of veteran cars.
