Letter to the Editor
A rare piece of motorsport history has recently surfaced: a handwritten and signed letter from the winners of the 1929 24 Hours of Spa. Drivers Robert Benoist and Attilio Maroni claimed victory that year in an Alfa Romeo 6C and later sent a personal note of thanks to tyre manufacturer Englebert. In the letter — now preserved by Luc Ruykaert — they praise the crucial role the tyres played in their success. Their pace was remarkable for the time: an average speed of more than 100 km/h over the entire 24 hours.
Could the Alfa Romeo 6C that started the race with number 23 still exist today? Anyone who knows more about the current whereabouts or condition of chassis #23 is warmly invited to come forward.
