We know you like to solve a bit of a mystery here at PreWarCar.com, and who are we not to support your enthusiasm and provide you with another little nut to crack? So let’s get on with this puzzle picture. There’s very little information. In fact all we know is that the photograph was supposedly taken in 1933. That’s it.
This leaves us with the satisfying job of deducing its provenance from what we can see. Left hand drive suggests USA or Continental Europe and we think the latter here. The backdrop doesn’t give anything away but our intuition says France or Germany. In her day the lady certainly must have been a dedicated follower of fashion with some very smart clothing, also note the dog sitting on the folded-up roof. But none of that brings us much closer to the answer.
The real question for us car sleuths still remains — what’s that car? Its steel wheels with hubcaps, the leather interior and that huge door all whisper Mercedes to us, and yet it doesn’t seem to be a run-off-the-mill model. But then there’s that little badge on its side, just above the running board. This has to be a coach-built beauty, doesn't it? Who can help us out here?
