Braking on the banking and banking on the brakes: odd goings-on at Brooklands

Who remembers the crashed car which was found in the bushes under the Brooklands circuit about 20 years ago? We can’t find back anything about it now, but we recall it was a 1920s or 1930s chassis with only some crumbling leftovers of a body scattered round it. It seemed likely that the car had ended up there after its driver lost control and shot over the track’s edge, only to be forgotten about over the following seven or eight decades.

This picture reminded us of that unlikely find as there can be little doubt that it was taken at the Brooklands track, with its steep incline and Members' Bridge. It is steeper than it seems, say most who’ve been there and walked up the banking, so driving down it in a car is perhaps not for everyone. These chaps seem to enjoying themselves in their sports car, though. The drum brakes may be small, but they seem to be working!

It’s just a pity we do not have any further information. What is the vee-tailed roadster, for one thing? Perhaps you know?

It's a 1925 Salmson Grand Sport, an 1100 c.c. twin overhead camshaft model like the one in my shed. The photo was possibly taken during a road test by The Autocar.
