Earlier in the year, we presented some pictures of the wonderful Western Clipper, a mobile home-cum-office penned in the late 1930s by industrial designer Brooks Stevens. These extraodinary teardrop streamliners were apparently built on International truck chassis with Ford flathead V8s. As we said then, we can't think of a more desirable motorhome, and if we only had a Clipper at our disposal, we'd never get tired of going on long Continental holidays, and we'd rather enjoy being the envy of the Beaulieu Autojumble campsite.
Talking of autojumbles, the A.A.C.A.'s famous Eastern Fall Meet at Hershey, Pennsylvania, is just round the corner, and we wonder if that's where these ladies might be heading with their pretty pair of Clippers. It would make sense—their accommodation is all sorted and they've got plenty of room in the back in case they end up buying a rear axle for a 1911 Hupmobile, or a complete engine for an eight-cylinder Stearns-Knight.
We jest, perhaps, but this is Hershey we're talking about. If there's anywhere in the world where you are likely to encounter one of the few surviving Western Clippers, the Hershey swapmeet is probably it. We'll look forward to seeing what turns up...
