Great British Racing Green at Glorious Goodwood

The great Goodwood Revival (September 17-19) will hopefully be as glorious as ever, and it looks like the cars being offered for sale there certainly are.

Bonhams Auctioneers will be having an exciting auction with lots of PreWarCars on offer, a remarkable number of them being sports/race cars in the classic BRG hue.

MG

First of them is an exciting MG M-type ‘Magic Midget’, which is an ex-1924 Le Mans (retired) and Spa (5th in class) 24-hours car. It was restored to its correct Le Mans specification early on in its history (1960s) and still looks superb.

Lagonda

Not one, not two but three 1929 Lagonda 2-litre tourer models with low chassis and consecutive works registration numbers. And, amazingly, although it’s not painted British Racing Green, No. 4 is there as well! You only need to find No. 5 to finish the complete Lagonda works collection of that year. What a dream team!

Another Lagonda is a V12 Le Mans replica, which started life as a saloon but was turned into a replica of that big, brutal BRG Lagonda Le Mans contender in the late 1990s/early 2000s. It will definitely scare your neighbours when you take it for an early morning spin.

Bentley

Oh, and there are, of course, a great number of the ever popular vintage Bentleys, including a mighty 1926 6½-litre ‘Le Mans’ Tourer, a 1926 3-litre Tourer and a 1930 6½-litre Le Mans Team Car replica for example. (Okay, the last ones are black but at least the interior is green.)

Alvis

The final sporting chariot needing inclusion here is a 1932 Alvis Speed Twenty 'SA' Tourer. Its second owner was the Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot, who is not known to us but does sound like a proper chap.
