Green light for the RM Sotheby's Veteran Car Run

Entries Are Open!

It gives me great pleasure to announce that the Royal Automobile Club has opened entries for this year’s RM Sotheby’s London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, scheduled for Sunday 1 November 2020.

To enable this year’s event to run safely, we have made some modifications to comply with the latest COVID-19 guidelines, and have been working closely with all the authorities along the route to facilitate our plans.

The Club’s priority, as always, is the safety and protection of the participants, organisers and spectators, so a number of modifications will be introduced this year:

•There will be a rolling start on The Mall with an allocated time slot for each sector to run past the start flag in order to streamline the event and avoid mass gatherings.

•There will be a maximum of 250 entries for cars and 15 entries for both veteran motorcycles and veteran cycles (accepted strictly in order of receipt) – this will allow the Run to operate on the single traditional route out of London, including Westminster Bridge, and minimise congestion.

•To avoid a mass gathering at Crawley, the Run will not stop there but there will be several nominated stop-off points on the route.

•The customary finish on Madeira Drive will be streamlined to avoid crowding and updates on hospitality will be made nearer the date.

•In the event of the Run being cancelled on or before Sunday 4 October, due to new COVID-19 related restrictions, then 50% of the entry fee will be refunded; after 4 October there will be no refund due to a COVID-19 related cancellation of the Run.

•Due to constraints there will be no souvenir programme this year, however, a full entry list will be published online.

•This year’s entry fee will be £240 (online application) for all car categories up to 28 August and then £270 (online application) with a closing date of 25 September.

•Updates will be given on the status of the International Concours d’Elegance at the Regent Street Motor Show and hospitality for participants in due course through the newsletter.

Finally, I would like to thank our partners, the members of the VCR Steering Group for their contributions and the local authorities on the route for their support and permitting this year’s Run to go ahead.

If there's any doubt about cancellation the RAC should only take the entrance fee after the event has taken place. If they want to take a fee in advance the RAC should refund 100% if the event is cancelled.

What fantastic news that this event is to go ahead. I'm sure it's down to the very hard work behind the scenes to make this happen, and my sincere congratulations to our to all of you. Compromises have to be made in these strange times, and I urge everyone who attends to respect the instructions of the organisers. Well done one and all.
