Happy New Year to all of our readers!
As the start of the year is traditionally the time for New Year’s resolutions, we thought this image to be fitting. We can’t speak for any of you, but might simply suggest that it’s always worth not to forget to show goodwill towards each other, whatever your position or background.
This beautiful image reminds us of the joys of kindness. We see a police officer receiving a hot cup of coffee and salutations on a cold winter day in Washington D.C. in 1919. Carrying out his job on the streets in the snow must have been chilly, but driving round in an open-sided motor was, too. Note the bonnet wrapped in its own blanket—even the car suffered from the cold!
A simple hot drink may have made the world of difference to our policeman, or at least a small one. It looks like the fellow in the back seat was in charge of the coffee distribution.
All the best to you in 2025.
