The Monaco Historic Grand Prix once again took place this year on the streets of Monaco, traditionally held two weeks before the modern Grand Prix. Since its first edition in 1997, the event has been organised by the Automobile Club de Monaco, with the aim of preserving the heritage of motor racing in an authentic manner. The races are contested across various classes, grouped by period and type of car, ranging from pre-war Grand Prix machines to Formula One cars from the 1970s and 1980s.
Although we were unable to attend this year, the available footage provides a clear impression of how the event unfolded. Notably, the programme also made room for pre-war machinery. The early classes featured Grand Prix cars from the 1920s and 1930s, as well as voiturettes from the same era. This ensures that the event remains relevant for enthusiasts of pre-war motor racing, even if the overall programme has broadened its scope over time.
The street circuit itself, largely unchanged in essence, continues to place very specific demands on both driver and machine. It is precisely this that makes the Historique less of a nostalgic parade and more of a serious competition—albeit with historic machinery.
