“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.” ― Haruki Murakami.
“It was a wonderful day in November 2005. I just finished my training and did not know that in a single moment my life was about to change…I had a terrible motorbike accident with several injuries, for 14 days I was in a coma, then I woke up. The most difficult months in my life were yet to come. I recovered and overcame the negative consequences. During this process, I found comfort and joy in drawing. Historic Škoda models, to be more precise. With time, the number of sketches grew, and I became more and more interested in the company. Along the way, I learned about Laurin and Klement and their remarkable life story. This inspired me to make more sketches and did research on the internet, in books and looked for old photographs. It was as if I became part of their story. This made me decide to bundle everything and for more than a year, I worked on my 168-page book. The book shows the history of Laurin & Klement (since 1929 the name changed to Škoda) in around 90 sketches.”
This is the remarkable story of Stefan Ivanov, from Bulgaria who has sketched over two thousand historic Skoda models over the last 13 years. His first book came out in October 2019 and includes beautiful drawings of the founders Laurin & Klement, their innovations and all (Škoda)models with different coach builds. As can be seen here, all drawn to the smallest detail!
Unfortunately, the book is until this point only available in the Bulgarian language. But the drawings are absolutely amazing! They alone make it definitely worth adding the book to the collection! For more information about the book and to place an order, click here.
