Model 32 Roadster, but which one?

Triggered by the ‘Model 32 Roadster’ caption and with ‘1932 Ford Historic Hot Rods’ as one of the classes at Pebble Beach we thought for one split second that this picture fitted in beautifully with the concours theme. Well, we couldn’t be more wrong, could we?

This is not a Hot Rod as it is not a Ford. It’s not even a ’32 car. What is it then? A Model 32 Roadster, yes. But what is the marque? We found that around 1910 there had been several manufacturers offering ‘32 Models’, which seems to be the era to fit this one into. Buick, Marmon, Hupmobile? Even Peerless and Herreshof (remember?) had them. You’ll be able to tell us, surely.

It remains a great photograph of two (Friday) ladies posing in their roadster. With unpaved and treacherous roads, no roof or even a windscreen, driving at the dawn of automobiles certainly wasn’t for the faint of heart. But these women don’t wear much protective clothing. Apart from thick gloves they go their way in light, coloured dresses and hats. Just a run to the church and back?
