Not in the encyclopædia: whatever is this mysterious three-wheeler?

Writer Chris Rees has authored a few books on three-wheelers. In his encyclopaedic Three-Wheelers A-Z (a real gem if you still need any ideas for Christmas), he starts with an interesting introduction when he writes: “there is a very good reason why the photographer’s tripod has three legs... Three is the smallest number required to create a stable self-supporting structure. Exactly the same is true of cars. With the exception of gyroscopically-assisted two-wheelers, and possibly wheel-less hovercars, three wheels is all that’s required for a stable ‘footprint’ that won’t fall over. Armed with this fact, you may be surprised that the world is not populated with three-wheeled vehicles. Instead the people of the planet are, by and large, transported by four-wheeled cars and two-wheeled motorbikes. Three-wheelers have almost always occupied a shadowy corner in the territory of transportation.”

That’s a fascinating outcome, isn’t it? Although the vehicle in this beautiful picture shows its fourth wheel rather prominently, it certainly is a three-wheeler. The lady must be tiny as she doesn’t even seem to be able to look over that bonnet. Note the pretty Art Déco mascot near the aero windscreen. And what’s that horn behind it? Just a Klaxon?

What's more, despite being armed with Rees’s books, we couldn’t quite figure out what exactly this three-wheeled vehicle is. A Morgan or Darmont (the Morgan built under licence in France) would be the obvious suggestion, but we’re not quite so sure about that. Some pictures of Coventry Victor three-wheelers, made in their namesake city, show similar-looking plating over the chassis, which we couldn’t find on Morgans, Darmonts or BSAs. Any ideas?

We could well think of a D'Yrsan Très Sport.
Transverse leaf springs of the front axle, wheels, spare wheel therefore three identical, unlike the others.
Morgan and Darmont are different to the before the back.
Position of the lights on the wing mounting bracket supporting the radiator.
I am attaching photos of the possible evolution of a Très Sport.
It has returned to its original configuration.
A message to PreWarCar and the VRM organizers.
You forgot the 100 years of the brand!

Hello
This car is very similar to the others manufactured by Raymond Risan under the D'Yrsan brand.
But beware of small manufacturers who have made similar vehicles.....

A second vote for D’Yrsan. A search for D’Yrsan images on the Gallica BNF website is quite persuasive. I think it likely that the skirt below chassis level is a later addition.

Like we have seen in contemporary times, could this be a home-built? A similar, but not, front drive 'clip' from a BSA (possibly a four-wheel BSA, but it doesn't look like a BSA) with the third wheel and structure grafted on behind? Looks quite home-built except for the front appendage - and what might that be? Overall, even assuming the lady is rather petite, that is quite a large vehicle for type (bigger than a Mog or Darmont, etc.). Thanks for posting this.

Huge and heavy tricycle, not very elegant for a great brand...

I don't know what brand this three-wheeler is but the horn/Klaxon you mention is a Bosch horn (mounted upside-down but that was not uncommon). The headlight seems to be Bosch as well (Bosch J170 model ?). However with these German parts it does not mean at all that the car is German.

Also because of the mascot, she looks like one of the many versions of La Plongeuse. These have a French origin.
