With daylight getting shorter and temperatures dropping in this part of the world, we know one thing: it's time for the annual 100 Miles rally.
This winter's night rally is back after being postponed in 2020 and will take place in the Flanders region, Ypres to be precise. This town in the south of Belgium is best known for its role in the First World War in which hundreds of thousands of soldiers lost their lives. The town itself was destroyed but rebuilt after the war. This history will play an important role in the 100 Miles of Ypres 2021 as many traces of this period can still be seen in the area.
On Saturday 18 December the locals can see, hear and smell the PreWarCars. At 20.00 hrs the opening ceremony will take place with the Last Post, which has been performed every day since 1928 under the Menin Gate/ Menenpoort (see video clip here), and 31 minutes later the first car will set off. The route will run between the many field cemeteries that recall a dark period in our history. One of the stops is at the Yser Tower/ IJzer Toren, a monument to commemorate the (Belgian) soldiers who died during WWI. On the monument is written: 'Plus jamais de guerre, Never again war, Nie wieder Krieg, Nooit meer oorlog'.
After this, the rally continues and will finish in Ypres, with cars arriving from about 1.00am onwards. And then it's party time!
It is still possible to register for this unique event. And, above all, still time to prepare your car and find the right navigator with warm clothes.
The PreWarCar.com team will be participating in the rally, see you there!
