This is my Opel 1,3 Liter Model 1934. It is the earliest one known from Feb. 1934. I restored it in 2009 and tried to keep its original condition. The car was not driven since 1949/50 and stood in a barn. Supposetly it has been used somehow in WWII. unfortunately its history before 1946 remains dark. I have the original title issued in 1946 by the French Military Government of South-West Germany. The car runs well and is registered. It is endless fun to use it and to drive in it.

I agree, nothing beats the look,smell and feel of a careworn but well maintained old car.More time and space should be given to these sorts of ordinary cars that many people drove for years after the war.

Good to see a non-luxury and non-famous car in the magazine. A trip to a car museum or rally can give the spectator the impression that the population travelled in luxury vehicles, that relatively inexpensive vehicles never existed. Even your sister The Automobile falls into this trap. Bugattis and their ilk are interesting but so are the small Fords, the Opels and the Austins.

It is so good to see these nice pictures of Franks old Opel-quite rare now,I guess? What I really like is that he has kept it in original& tidy condition,as it would have been when last used as regular transport.So important,I think.Also,there is a history lesson for us.The body lines of this car are somewhat similar to the English Vauxhalls of around 2 years later,I would say-(both companies belonged to General Motors).Nice car!
