For historic motorsport enthusiasts, September is synonymous with the Goodwood Revival. Racing at Goodwood originally took place between 1948 and 1966 on the former RAF Westhampnett airfield. While you will have no difficulty finding pictures and reports of the racing in the motoring press, we should like to draw attention to some of the superb pre-war cars which added to the spectacle, along with that other key aspect of the Revival, stylish ladies and gentlemen brilliantly attired in 1930s and ’40s dress.

Austins take centre-stage

A highlight for us was the Austin Seven centenary celebration. Around 100 Sevens were scattered about the place, including a number of historically important examples, and they opened each day’s festivities with a parade lap of the circuit. Also commemorated was the 90th anniversary of the 1932 Ford, with 10 hot rods, all in a period-correct style, making an attractive display.

Away from the circuit, there was the usual splendid selection of cars to be found in the pre-1966 car park, from a beautiful Edwardian Talbot to a surprisingly ‘oily rag’ Rolls-Royce 25/30. The atmosphere and intrigue of the Revival really has to be experienced in person, but we hope we’ve captured some of it in our photographs.

It is good to know the Wades do quality work. So, what chassis was used and when was this 'Austin' racer built?

I like that big Austin race car and have never seen any mention of it before. Does it have any history or is it a faux racer?
