Without doubt this is a Hansa 1100, and already on the picture to recognise, not the slightly bigger 1700, because it has four instead of five ventilation flaps in the bonnet. According to this the given measures are of course those of the 1100.
Was built 1934-1940. 1100 cc 4-cil. sv engine 28 hp, later ohv, 4-speed gearbox. (1700 had 6-cil. 41 hp, built 1934-1937.)
Shortly before the war the new 2 l model was already called Borgward.

It was built in Bremen where Hansa had been established since 1905, the company first merged with Lloyd and then, around 1930 was taken over by Borgward.

This is a Hansa 1100 Cabrio-Limousine, built from 1934 to 1940 in Bremen, Germany. The Hansa 1100 was also available as a saloon, a two-window or four-window convertible, and as a sports convertible. It was powered by a 1088 cc four-cylinder engine of 27.5 hp. The 1634 cc six-cylinder Hansa 1700 looked almost identical, but could be identified by an extra flap in the side of the bonnet (5 in a row instead of 4). About 20,000 units of the 1100 and 6,000 of the 1700 were built. The quiz picture apparently was taken in post-war Czechoslovakia, the car showing a wrong rear wheel.

The car on the photo is a Hansa 1100 two door saloon. The production began in July 1934 and endet in 1940 The 4 cyl.engine had a capaity of 1088 cc and poweroutput was 27,5 HP Solex carburettor. The price of the saloon was 2750 RM in 1934. Top speed was 90 km/h. On the same basis was a 1700 for sale. The saloon a little bit longer 4270 mm. THe HAnsa 1100 was for sale with a Saloon or a cabrioledt body from the works in Varel near Bremen. In 1939 the Hansa 2000 was renamed into Borgward 2000. The Hansa works where purchased through Carl Borgward in 1929.

The Car is a 1937 Hansa 1100 (Borgward), the picture has been taken in 1971 in Praque by Patrick van der Stricht and is from the book Pozor 2 from Narwal Publishers, in this book you will find many pictures taken in Czechoslovakia in the late sixties and early zeventies, when you could still see there many prewar cars. There are also pictures taken by me.

In 1929 Hansa was taken over by Borgward-Goliath, but in july 1934 this Hansa H 1100 Cabrio-Limousine 1934 built in Bremen, was introduced, (soon followed by the “1700”) with an 4 cyl sv engine, capacity was 1080 cc, all independent suspension (swing-axle at the rear). Stayed in production till 1939, but in 1938 they were marketed as Borgwards. The 1700 models had a 6 cyl engine also in twin carburettor (sport) version available. Coachwork was all steel at a price of RM 2850,= which was expensive.

The car is a Hansa 1100 rwd powered by water cooled 4 cylinder 1088cc engine on a backbone tubular chassis with independent suspension .
The Hansa automotive company had been established as a car and truck makers since 1905. During the Great Depression in 1929, Hansa-Lloyd was bought by Carl F. W. Borgward as the factory was conveniently located opposite to his own Goliath factory on Föhrenstrasse in Bremen-Hastedt. The range of trucks of Hansa-Lloyd was complementing the Goliath range, and the purchase allowed Carl Borgward to fulfill his dream to produce his own cars.
Carl Borgward stopped Hansa-Lloyd's production of luxury cars, but continued its line of trucks until 1937. From 1933 onwards the brand name Hansa became the name of several Borgward passenger car models. The Hansa Konsul and Hansa Matador were introduced and shortly thereafter the small rear-engined Hansa 400 and 500.

In April 1933 the tax rules which were favoring small cars such as the Hansa 400 were abolished. Borgward decided to produce the new Hansa 1100 four-cylinder two-door all-steel Sedan, and then the six-cylinder 1700 and 2000. From 1939, the 2000 carried the Borgward brand. The name Hansa started to be phased out, becoming Hansa Borgward, then Borgward Hansa and finally Borgward.

In the Second World War, the Bremen factory was completely destroyed

This Hansa 1100 was built by the Hansa-Lloyd and Goliath works Borgward & Tecklenborg in Bremen between 1934 and 1939. The prototypes were presented at the Berlin Motor Show.
The 1088 cc ohv-4cyl-engine produced 20kW, rear-wheel drive via unsynchronized 4-speed gearbox, all wheels with hydraulic brakes. Available with steel bodies as a convertible sedan (as here), 2-door sedan and as a convertible.
The front-wheel rim in the picture is not original ...
At the same time, the more powerful model Hansa 1700 with 6cyl.-engine was produced on the same basis.
In total, about 26,000 Hansa 1100/1700 were built.

Hansa 1100 , Bremen - Germany, produced 1933 - 1939

This is a HANSA 1100 from the 30s. Due to the strong inclination of the b-pillar, even with the lower offset hinge, the door did not fall back into the lock when it was opened, but on the contrary, when it was not held, it opened completely with considerable momentum and was then only braked by the door catch strap. However, this meant considerable stress for the wooden construction of door and body. And since the door also folded down, there was always the danger that it would land on the curb, similar to early TR2s with their longdoors.

Hansa 1100, introduced in 1934, 4 cylinder OHV engine (65x82mm), 27,5 HP at 3600 rpm, 4 speed unsynchronised gearbox, hydraulic brakes; central tube chassis, front axle with two cross leaf springs, swinging rear axle with one cross leaf spring. Top speed below 100ph. 4 body types available: mostly 2door, 4pass - cabrio-limousine; limousine; cabriolet; sportcabriolet 2door, 2pass from 1936. Weight 1020 to 1080 kgs. In 5 years production run, some 30000 pieces of 1100s and 6-cylinder 1700s were built; similar Fiat 1100 sold within two years almost 60000 pieces. it`s an Hansa 1100 from the Borgward Group. Around 20000 were produced beetween 1934 and 1939. The Price was 2750RM (Reichsmark). It seems the photo was taken in DDR.

German Hansa 1100, Carl F. W. Borgward's first four-cylinder and -wheel family car. Engine capacity 1.1 Litre, swing-axle at rear as clearly visible on the battered example in the quiz photo. A kind of Borgward Isabella of the Third Reich, neither was ever offered as a four-door by the factory. Not that common-under 6000 registered i Germany in the late 30s. Exported to countries as Sweden and Estonia, has heard of non here in Finland. Introduced at the Berlin Auto Show 1934, production ended in 1939
