No summer is complete without taking in at least one concours, strolling lazily around an emerald lawn surrounded by a hand-picked selection of some of the world's finest cars, and if you live in the Netherlands, Belgium or any of the surrounding countries, your time would be well spent at Wheels at the Palace. This event, a relatively recent addition to the concours calendar, takes place at Soestdijk Palace, a majestic former residence of the Dutch royal family in Baarn, just half an hour by car from Amsterdam.
For many readers, a highlight of the event will be the Pre-War Sprint, staged in collaboration with the Dutch Vintage Sports Car Club, which the organizers describe as 'the most spectacular part of Wheels at the Palace. This lively competition is open to all D.V.S.C.C. members with a pre-1940 car.
Scholarly typres will be pleased to know that there will also be a large book fair, and uncommon but very welcome addition to the concours. If you're hunting for a long-out-of-print book or a rare brochure, you may find that you're in luck.
