I built this special around 1980 and sold it 15 years later. I made the chassis myself from various sections of box steel, while the bodywork is mainly wood. The bonnet, windscreen and radiator are from a 1930s Morris Eight. The engine and gearbox came from a 1966 MG Midget, with a 1275cc engine, while the front suspension, steering and rear axle are from a Morris Minor 1000. The registration number and chassis plate came from a 1958 Morris Traveller and I was able to transfer them to this car, which I called the Empire Special.
I sold it to a chap named K. Jolly in Eye, near Peterborough, but my efforts to locate the car have proved fruitless, despite placing appeals like this in classic car magazines over the years. The only glimmer of hope came from a chap who thought he’d seen it in Chelmsford about 15 years ago.
DVLA records show it to be on SORN.
Any help would be much appreciated, as I’ve still got all the information and photographs from the build. I’d just love to see it again.
Regards,
Franklin Woodcock
