Can you fill in the history gaps of this Lancia-Salmson special?

Hubert Kranz recently acquired CCA237, a rough special based on a very refined car: a 1939 Lancia Astura (oooops!! should be Augusta of course). At some point in time the Italian powerplant was exchanged for a British Salmson unit, which probably wasn't a bad choice back then. It seems the history of the car is more interesting than the remains. Recent research has shown that the car was delivered new as chassis only (#342083) and received a grey cabriolet coachwork as is showing in the logbook. No owners known from 1939-1950. Known owners since 1950: Dennis Stuart Kenyon, John Michael Tomlinson, J.M. Merchant, Robbie Coltrane and most recent Mr. Lamonby. However there is a gap from roughly 1979 - 1991 when the car is said to have been campaigned in VSCC events like Donington, Oulton Park, Cadwell Park. If you have any photos or other documents or recollections please let us know.

This car was offered at the 2012 Bremen Classic Motorshow. But I wonder if 1939 is correct. Augustas were produced between 1933 and 1936.

The British salmson Owners Club might be the best place to enquire. I recall it suffering an engine failure around that time while racing. The BSOC has a good spares availability that Hubert might find useful if the BS engine is still in the car
