1930s High Street, Burnham on Sea, Somerset.UK

Letter to the editor

Dear Sir,

This old photograph may be of interest to those able to identify old cars from the 1930s. What is interesting is how few vehicles there are compared with today.

Congratulations on having such an interesting and wide ranging magazine.

Well done.

Regards

This is the High Street in Burnham village in Buckinghamshire, not Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset. Same photo elsewhere is dated as 1955, although as all the cars look pre-WWII and there are no TV aerials, probably a bit earlier than the 1950s. Current Streetview has even fewer cars...

How appropriate if one of the cars was an Austin Burnham Saloon, which the one on the left, with its rear left petrol filler, rectangular rear window with up-curved beading underneath, split convergent double bumper, rear-mounted spare wheel and rack, looks a bit like it could be!?
