Chugging along under a gentle spring sun through the French countryside, we can’t help but feel how lucky we are to have such a wonderful hobby. This weekend, I’m taking part in the very first Rallye des Vieux Pistons, a touring rally organized for veteran and Edwardian cars. But the event isn’t just about the cars — it’s the social side that truly stands out, and the organizers clearly understand that.
Throughout the weekend, every stop and meal is thoughtfully arranged by a dedicated group of volunteers. We enjoy coffee beside the ruins of a medieval castle, lunch in the garden of another château, and our afternoon break at yet another historic estate. The scenery perfectly complements the elegance of our vintage vehicles.
The PreWarCar.com team has brought the 1909 Jackson out of the garage, and all nine horsepower seem perfectly at home on the gently rolling landscape. Although the daily distance is only about 90 kilometers, the variety along the route is striking — from forests to river valleys, from quaint villages to open meadows. Even the iconic Charolais cows seem to gaze at us with quiet approval.
