On Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th September, Beaulieu welcomed motoring enthusiasts from across the country and overseas to its 59th edition of its iconic International Autojumble. Bustling stands, a Classic Car Park, Automart and live music added to the buzz of the weekend, as visitors and exhibitors enjoyed two action-packed days of buying, selling and soaking up the atmosphere.

At the heart of the International Autojumble are the stands, packed with rare motoring parts, specialist tools, vintage automobilia, signs, books, bikes and collectables. For many however, the Autojumble is as much about the people as the finds. The opportunity to catch up with fellow enthusiasts and soak up the unique atmosphere is what makes the show so special.

Exhibitor Andy Shepherd was surprised with a celebratory cake and card from Beaulieu to mark an impressive 56 years of trading at the International Autojumble. Andy first exhibited in 1969, aged just 19, arriving to the Autojumble in style in his 1929 Rolls-Royce. Fast forward 56 years, Andy is still a regular exhibitor, putting the same care into his stand and offering visitors a wonderful collection of motoring wares. Likewise, special recognition was given to Dutch visitor, Herman Arentsen, who celebrated 50 years of attending the Beaulieu Autojumble. 

Each year, the Best Stand Award celebrates the stallholder whose display best captures the spirit and character of the International Autojumble. This year, the award went to Classic Rover Parts, the Holland-based specialists, who have been exhibiting at the International Autojumble for more than 20 years. Their stand was packed with fantastic Rover parts and memorabilia, while the team added to the bright display by sporting their own custom ‘Autojumble Team Holland’ outfits.

The team of six were congratulated by Russell Bowman, Managing Director of Beaulieu Enterprises, alongside Danny Hopkins from Practical Classics. The trophy was presented by Lolly Lee, in memory of her late father, and avid autojumbler, Terry Lee.

Praising the winning stand, Danny said: “We just love that you’ve really made an effort to bring something nice and colourful to the fields, and also that you’ve come from Europe. It’s the International Autojumble, and we want to celebrate that and welcome you back again.”

Back for a second year and bigger than last year in response to its popularity, the Classic Car Park gave visitors the opportunity to take a break from the Autojumble and admire an eclectic display of pre-2000 vehicles. With a fresh line-up on both Saturday and Sunday, the showcase featured an impressive variety of unique and rare vehicles, from classic VW campers to elegant Austins and even a hearse. The display also welcomed ‘Herbie’, the famous Volkswagen Beetle race car. Judges faced the difficult task of selecting their Show Favourite each day, with Steve and Lynn Morgan taking the coveted trophy on Saturday for their 1966 Chevrolet Corvair, presented by Dr Jon Murden, Chief Executive of the National Motor Museum. Lynn said: “It's a bit quirky and different. It has a mind of its own - you have to give it notice to brake!” On Sunday, the trophy went to Gregg Shadbolt for his stunning blue 1961 Vauxhall Cresta. For Gregg, the Cresta is about much more than just the car. Gregg said: “It represents an era of the '60s when it was a liberating time.”

Even more classic cars were on display in the Automart, where vehicles were up for sale by private sellers. The selection included characterful Hot Rods, classic MGs and charming Morris Minors. The Dealermart also provided dealers with the opportunity to promote their businesses and showcase the vehicles they had on offer. Among the exhibitors was Petrichor Shipping, which received a special award for its impressive stand presentation. The carefully curated display brought together a classic car, vintage furniture and signage to create a distinctive and elegant showcase.

For the first time this year, live music added to the atmosphere at the International Autojumble, with Vinyl DJ Retro Grooves playing an upbeat selection of tunes across both days. Visitors could grab a refreshment, relax on the hay bales and enjoy the music while taking in the lively Autojumble atmosphere.

The entertainment continued with a host of additional features this year. In the fields, visitors could watch vintage motor bicycle start-ups, as exhibitor Mark Walker demonstrated some of his 1920s bikes running on training rollers at various points throughout the event. Music also featured at the show, with exhibitor Ed Hughes performing pre-war jazz and dance music on piano from his stand. Meanwhile, Cyclekarts GB Club exhibited an eye-catching display, showcasing their handmade, lightweight sports machines inspired by pre-war racing cars, while introducing visitors to the club and the fascinating world of cyclekarting.
