The Citroën Traction Avant is rightly regarded as one of the most important cars of the twentieth century. With its front-wheel drive, monocoque construction, independent front suspension and low centre of gravity, it was years ahead of its time. Early examples are now particularly sought after, especially when they have survived in such remarkably original condition as this 1935 car.

Until recently, this Traction Avant formed part of a major museum collection, where it was preserved because of its unusually authentic condition. Unlike so many surviving examples, it has never been fully restored. The paintwork, interior and numerous details have remained intact, giving the car a character and sense of history that no restoration can reproduce.

The body is remarkably solid and sound. The doors fit well, close properly and show no noticeable play. The original paintwork naturally displays traces of use and age, but it is precisely this honest patina that makes the car so appealing. The original upholstery has also survived and contributes greatly to the wonderfully authentic atmosphere of the interior.

The car retains its characteristic early details, including the original Cibié headlamps. With the exception of the exhaust and fuel filter, it remains largely in its original specification. The chassis number is 066038.

The engine runs well, the car drives properly and the brakes operate as they should. It can therefore be enjoyed in its present condition, while carefully preserving the originality that makes it so special.

This is not a Traction Avant for someone seeking a freshly restored, concours-perfect example. It is an honest, highly original survivor for the enthusiast who values authenticity, patina and history. Cars of this age and significance are only original once, and it is increasingly rare to find one that combines such untouched character with genuine usability.
