A once in a lifetime Mercedes-Benz barn find

Last week, we received the following letter from a very happy reader about his "once in a lifetime find": the discovery of a Mercedes-Benz W142 320 Cabriolet with coachbuilt body by Rometsch.

"Greetings fellow car nuts. I’m writing from Southern California in hopes of chasing the history of a very special Mercedes that I discovered last year. It is a 1940 Mercedes W142 320 with a coachbuilt body by Rometsch. I’ve been searching deep and have found many pieces to the puzzle but I would like to find more. It was delivered new to Berlin on March 15th 1940 as a Pullman Limousine. From what I have gathered, the coachwork was designed by Johannes Beeskow, possibly pre-war when he was with Erdmann and Rossi, but was completed post-war at Rometsch in Berlin in 1948. It made it over to the US at some point in the 1950s to New Mexico, and then in the 60s to Michigan where it sat in a barn until last year. I am currently in the process of revival and preservation and hope to display it this year in its unrestored state at a few events.
