Scrapyard Challenge

Seeing a pre-war car at the scrapyard has become a real rarity. The last time we came across one was four years ago (click here). That car was swiftly identified as a Dutch-sold Morris 10/4 Special Coupé of 1933 and, although it was well rotten, readers still asked us whether it could be salvaged.

Matthew Williams came across this one near Manchester more recently. Well, you would not miss it, would you? He wondered what it was, and it turned out to be a Citroën AC4 of 1928. That can never have been a very common car in the UK, can it? The banger racing boys seem to have got hold of it before it ended up on those racks, and we can only hope it was too far gone to be saved. Or perhaps it was saved in the end?

Have you seen a pre-1940 car at a scrapyard? Then we would love to hear from you. Comments below, or drop us a line here.

I'm too old now to find these cars and trucks from those days when my dad and I would go searching the junkyards for whatever we could find to R&R our '30 Chevy, as those vehicles are long gone by now. One day our family was visiting some fellow car-club members when I discovered an old car chassis out back of their place by a small building. They noticed me looking it over closely and thought I would like to know that it was in fact a Pierce Arrow! Wow is right! (This happened in the 1970's.)

In St. Paul Minnesota, a scrapyard on Rice Street still has a model T Ford Coupe on the roof of the building. They have kept it up there for as many years as I can remember, at least painting it and preserving it as a landmark......Ace Auto Parts.....
