Back to Stavelot 2025

Letters to the Editor

In 2020, when Covid made travelling to London impossible, Marc Sabbe, a member of the Belgian Veteran Car Club, decided to organise a drive in the same spirit as the London-Brighton, but on Belgian territory. The initiative was well received and is now organised annually, to the great pleasure of those who do not make the trip to London. This year, the outing took place in Stavelot, where three cars brought back to life after nearly a century of slumber were exhibited at the Museum of the Francorchamps Circuit. The 1901 Renault, the 1902 De Dion-Bouton, and the 1904 Pipe were put back on the road by their Belgian owners, without altering their 130-year-old patina!

Before discovering these treasures of the past, eighteen cars braved rain worthy of the finest English downpours for a 60 km drive through the region, passing by the Francorchamps Circuit and the hills and valleys between Stavelot and Vielsalm. In 2026, the outing will take place one week after the English London-Brighton, so that those who wish to may also travel to London.
