The Bat was one of the better-known tri-cars, and was more car-like than most, with a chair-type seat for the driver instead of the usual saddle, and a semi-enclosed wooden body for the passenger who sat in front. In 1909 the Bat company introduced their ‘Bat Carcycle’ which resembled a motor-cycle and sidecar, but had four wheels, the steering being by handlebar. The Bat name came from the original maker, Samuel Robert Batson.
