The Gasmobile company began manufacture of cars and tricycles in 1899, under the name Automobile Voiturette, but the name Gasmobile was not applied until 1900. The Gasmobile cars originally had rear-mounted 3-cylinder horizontal engines, and chain drive. By 1902 two lines of design were being followed by Gasmobile: the horizontal rear-engined models made in 9 and 12hp form, and a front vertical-engined car with 20hp 4-cylinder engine which was said to be a close copy of the Panhard. There was also listed a 35hp horizontally-opposed six, but whether this Gasmobile was actually made is uncertain.
