The original La Ponette car was a light two-seater using a 7hp single-cylinder engine of 827cc, a 2-speed epicyclic gear, and shaft drive. The La Ponette car had a dashboard radiator, and a very light doorless two-seater body. Single cylinder La Ponette cars were made up to 1912, when a 4-cylinder Ballot 1.460cc engine was introduced, and the following year the singles were discontinued. The singles La Ponette cars were said to have been designed by an Englishman, John Averies, who afterwards made the Averies cyclecar. Post-war La Ponette cars were thoroughly conventional, and used 4-cylinder engines by Ballot and S.C.A.P., as well as their own make, from 1.7 to 2.8 litres’ capacity.
