The Maxim car was the work of Hiram Stevens Maxim of Maxim gun fame, the father of Hiram Percy Maxim who was associated with Pope in the Columbia venture in America. The Maxim car was a conventional 16hp twin-cylinder car with mechanically-operated side valves in a T-head, cone clutch, 3-speed gearbox, and side-chain drive, selling for 450gns. Early examples of Maxim cars had tubular radiators, but a honeycomb type had been adopted by 1903. Through Maxim cars were still being sold in 1905, the Maxim carfirm’s principal business by this time was the supply of automobile lighting equipment.
