Phanomen(later Phanomobil) built bicycles and motor cycles before turning to car production. The Phanomobil, a 3-wheeled vehicle with the engine mounted above the single front wheel which it drove by chain, appeared in 1907. This first model Phanomen/ Phanomobil had a V-twin air-cooled engine of 88cc. After 1912 a 4-cylinder engine of 1.536cc was used on the Phanomen/ Phanomobil. The Phanomobil was built until 1927 and was a very popular and economical vehicle. The Phanomobil was available as a two- or four-seater with various body styles. In 1911 Phanomen/ Phanomobil also offered a 4-wheeled 10/12PS, 2.580cc car and a 16/45PS 3.968cc Phanomen/ Phanomobil followed. The Phanomen/ Phanomobil cars were manufactured to high standards of quality but the Phanomen/ Phanomobil carswere not built in large numbers. The Phanomen/ Phanomobil cars were continued after World War 1 in improved form.
The Phanomen Model 412 of 1924 was a new design with a 4-cylinder, 3.128cc 50bhp engine with shaft-driven overhead camshaft, which was also available in a short-wheelbase 65bhp sports version. Car production Phanomen/ Phanomobil ceased in 1927 and Phanomen subsequently concentrated very successfully on their Phanomen Granit vans and light lorries with compressed-air cooling. The Phanomen/ Phanomobil factory was nationalized in 1945, and today produces light commercials under the name of Robur.
