Sometimes listed as the Auto Red Bug, the Red Bug car was the Briggs & Stratton Buckboard redesigned with an electric motor powered by a 12 volt battery driving the nearside rear wheel. A brake acted on the opposite rear wheel. Otherwise the Red Bug car offered no more amenities than the Briggs & Stratton, but at least the Red Bug car was quieter. The Red Bug car name was also applied to the petrol-engined Buckboard.
