The first Toledo cars were steamers, powered by vertical 2-cylinder double-acting engines of 6¼hp. Steering of the Toledo car was by tiller, and several different body styles were made, prices for the Toledo cars varying from $800 to $1.600. In 1902 a petrol-driven Toledo car with a 18hp vertical 3-cylinder engine was introduced. The steamer Toledo cars were dropped at the end of 1902, and the petrol Toledo cars were known as Pope-Toledo from 1903 onward.
