Chassis number plate found magnet fishing in Coventry – any information?

Letter to the editor

Hi,

I’ve been advised to write in, as my son is eager to find any information about an item he found while magnet fishing in Coventry. From what I’ve been able to gather, it appears to be a chassis number plate from a vehicle, and the closest match I’ve found is on this site.

My son is very interested in history and would love to learn anything about the vehicle this once belonged to. If anyone could shed some light on it, we would really appreciate it.

Thanks so much,

Danielle

What an exciting find!
Now let's hope there's anyone who can find out which car it belonged to.

Your son should be applauded , and encouraged with his interest in history.
While I am sure there are plenty of Darracq experts that can answer your questions better. Using the VCC list, the plate you have found is probably from the numbers about 1905/6.
Interestingly one of the most famous veteran cars Genevieve from the 1953 film of the same name, wears an identical brass plate numbered English 740, Chassis 6505.
I hope others can help with more detailed information.
