Hershey 2023 - In pictures

The AACA National Fall Meet took place last week, as always the first weekend of October at the grounds and car parks around Hersheypark and The Giant Center.

I love Hershey. Went there for the first time in 1974. The smell of cacao when you get close to the town. The days when you could take a flight from the airfield. It was the only place with a bit of tarmac. The rest was grass. The first 2 days it smelled fresh. After that not so much. The sweet strange odour from 500 plastic portable bathrooms. The first day I bought a very original Bugatti T57 (late Galibier) and a perfect T57 gearbox and crankshaft plus many other Bugatti parts. And the purchase of a totally original Ferrari 410SA P/F Coupe for $245K a few years later in a tent on the airfield. Payment was all in cash. We had to exchange our Dutch guilders into dollars at the bank in Harrisburg.
They gave us the rate of Exchange of the German Mark (10% stronger). We were in Dutch (Deutsch) Pennsylvania after all. Plenty extra money for a pancake breakfast at the House of Waffles. The Hershey Hotel up the hill. The bar. Fabulous. And the walk down every morning. Sometimes cold and often rainy. I think there were no more than two or three Dutch, a few Belgians and Brits. That was it. Sweet memories. I should go again in 2024.
