A common saying is "as the twig is bent so is the tree inclined", which means that when you learn young you are able to do it later on. The saying also applies to cherishing and collecting classic cars. If you have been raised in a family with, let's say, Panhard Levassors, you are most likely to appreciate them when you are older.
Same goes for the mechanical part, if you had to help your father as a little child with changing the spark plugs on the family's Packard (?), you sure know how to do it later on with your own car. So we can only ask you to get your kids and grandkids involved in the old car hobby, even if it's a dirty and greasy job. We're sure they'll will love it in the end!
