Unknown flat-twin engine

Letters to the editor

Hello from a French engineer in Lyon. I bought a barn-find engine some time ago and I've tried since then to identify it. I have no clue what it came from but it is an air-cooled flat-twin engine with manual two-speed (and reverse) transmission. It was equipped with an Ericsson ETM23 magneto and a Solex 26MHG carburettor (but I'm not sure either are original components). The clutch is reverse cone-clutch type.

The only information I have is that 'MaB' is stamped on most gears and shaft. It corresponds to the Malicet et Blin brand which was a big supplier of gears and drivetrain components.
Thank you very much for your help.

Regards,
Georges

The bike: Genial Lucifer. I modified it to have a clutch and a gear box. It runs much better now.

I have no idea, but that home-made motorbike looks wonderful! It would be very neat if we could see all of it... Good job!

I have found in Germany an unknown flat-twin engine. It is an o.h.v. liquid-cooled engine with a big bronze Solex carburetter. If somebody has any information on it, it will be received with thanks. The restored engine is mounted on a home-made bike now.

Casting has no designations. Clean it of dirt and take a larger photo. I think I recognize the factory stamp. But it seems to me that this is the first engine that was produced jointly with Germany from 1927 to 1930. Then the Germans used these cooling fins on BMW R71 motorcycles.
